Race Car Revival

Rev your engines! Level 3 Motorsport Engineering students are thrilled to have received a donation of the Saker RapX race car. This generosity comes with an exciting challenge to building a GT race car for ALP Racing.

The German sports car is designed to perform well on the road as well as on the racing track. Fitted with a 2.0l turbo charged Subaru engine, it typically races in the Britcar endurance championship or GT Cup championship. The race car is being donated in a kit form which is stripped for development for the students to rebuild to racing standards.

Engineering Lecturer, Ryan Stutchbury explains that the plan for the students is for them to build it on behalf of a race team. Once built, the students will then do testing with the car in order to gain experience of running the car at a racing event. “Currently the students are dummy building the car to ensure everything fits. It will then get re-striped, the chassis will go off to be powder-coated and be returned for the final build. The overall plan is for the build to be completed by early 2022, ready for race season.”

Keep an eye out for further updates on the progress of this race car revival!
