Accessibility Statement
Our commitment
Brooklands Technical College is committed to ensuring its website is accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to meet the requirements of the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 and to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA.
This statement applies to www.brooklands.ac.uk.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 level AA, due to the non‑compliances listed below.
Known accessibility issues
We are aware of the following accessibility issues which may affect some users.
Keyboard navigation and focus
- Keyboard focus is not consistently visible across the website, particularly within:
- the cookie consent banner when expanded
- In some cases, when menus or overlays are open, keyboard focus can move behind them and become partially or fully obscured.
This may affect users who navigate using a keyboard or assistive technologies.
Zoom and reflow
- At high zoom levels (up to 400%) or on small screens:
- the cookie consent banner does not reflow correctly
- content may overflow the viewport and cannot always be scrolled
This may particularly affect users with low vision.
Embedded and third‑party content
- Some embedded content, including application forms delivered via third‑party systems, does not always provide clear, accessible labelling for screen‑reader users.
- Where third‑party content is used, we aim to work with suppliers to improve accessibility where possible.
Documents (PDFs)
- Some PDF documents hosted on the website:
- do not have meaningful document titles
- include images without appropriate alternative text
This may affect users who rely on screen readers.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Brooklands Technical College is actively working to improve accessibility across the website. Our current focus includes:
- improving keyboard focus visibility and focus management
- addressing navigation and overlay behaviour
- resolving reflow and zoom issues
- improving colour contrast across global components
- reviewing embedded and third‑party content
- improving the accessibility of published documents
Accessibility improvements are being delivered on an ongoing basis.
