Principal’s Update – December 2018

As we come to the end of term and approach Christmas, I just wanted to reflect on the Autumn term at Brooklands College.

It’s been a whirlwind of activity for many departments. Our catering students prepared and served to record numbers in Brooks Restaurant, a bumper sitting of 92 were catered for at one Christmas Lunch, and students coped with the pressure superbly. Our award-winning Construction department had another national winner in Naomi Hamilton, who won the 14-18 year old category at the #iBuiltThis18 competition at the NEC. The Electrical Installation course, which we have moved to our Ashford Campus, is proving very popular as demand for skills-based courses increases. We continue to work closely with local employers, who really engage and support with the development of our young people. Our Travel and Tourism students recently spent a whole day at British Airways as part of their cabin crew course, with full access to all training facilities.

There are so many departments that it is hard to mention them all, but our first Open Event of 2019 is on January 12th and it is the ideal opportunity to come and visit us and see our amazing facilities. Whether you are looking to start College in September on a full–time course, or an adult learner looking to improve your skills, or to take things to the next level on a Higher Education course, we will have specialist staff available to help you make the right choice.

I would like to wish all our students, governors and staff very best wishes for the festive season and a successful 2019.

Gail Walker
Principal
