Olivia Beeny: a love for sport

Course Studied: Sport and Exercise Science – Level 3 (Extended Diploma)

Progression: Elmbridge Borough Council – Sports Development Assistant

Fitness fanatic Olivia Beeny had only positive words to say when reflecting on her time at Brooklands College, completing an Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science in June 2018.

A love for sport whilst also still allowing her to keep her career options open were the two main factors behind Olivia’s decision to choose Sport, recommending prospective students to “take a look at all of the courses available” and see the possible jobs each course may lead to.

Olivia also completed a work experience placement at Weybridge Health Club and Gym during her time at Brooklands and in her second year studied towards a certificate in fitness instructing.

Since leaving Brooklands last year, Olivia started in her role as Sports Development Assistant at Elmbridge Borough Council in March 2019.

She said: “I really enjoy the role as I’m engaging people of all ages to become more physically active and to look after their health.”

Improving the physical activities within Elmbridge, her role also includes organising the Surrey Youth Games, the largest multi-sports youth event in the county. Spread over a single weekend every year, it brings together 6-16 year olds in Surrey.

Inspiring the next generation as well as people of all ages and backgrounds, participation, inclusivity and equality are just as important aspects of her job.
