Magna Carta: Fruit Glorious Fruit!
Published on 24.01.2019
On Friday 18th January, students from Magna Carta enjoyed a visit to Brooklands College’s Catering department, serving up a delicious dessert for diners in Brooks Restaurant.
Patisserie lecturer, Nick Hebditch, hosted an insightful session in which the students got actively involved in moulding pastry to make fruit tarts. The pastries were then placed into the oven whilst the students had the opportunity to practice how to pipe custard before adding a tropical topping of chopped strawberries, grapes and blueberries.
The students then swapped their white cloaks for a seat in Brooks Restaurant, enjoying a three-course meal from the lunch menu, which included their sweet fruit tarts for dessert.
Cathrine Paramu Field, Head of Food Preparation and Nutrition at Magna Carta School, reflected on a very positive day with her students at Brooklands College: “Thank you once again for having us today. It was a great day for the year 10 students, Heather and myself. We all had a fantastic day. A number of them cannot wait to join Brooklands in the next two years. The team were amazing – very professional! Hopefully we can arrange a similar event in the future.”
