Construction Scoops Award for groundbreaking Lee Marley Partnership

The groundbreaking partnership between Brooklands College and Lee Marley Brickwork was recognised at the regional ceremony of the SECBE Constructing Excellence Awards in June 2019.

Lee Marley Brickwork was founded in 1997 and has grown to become one of the UK’s leading Brickwork, scaffolding and integrated façade subcontractors. The company works with Brooklands College to deliver apprenticeships and continue the training of the next generation of skilled workers in the Construction industry.

Derek Rees, Chief Executive of the SECBE, said: “These Constructing Excellence awards are really important in driving the industry forward and this winning entry is a great example of what good companies can do when they collaborate, when they are inspired and when they innovate.”

Lee Marley has worked closely with Brooklands to develop a progressive syllabus with a focus on modern Construction techniques and employability skills whilst rewarding the progress of apprentices.

Before presenting representatives from Lee Marley Brickwork with the Apprenticeship Initiative award, Cotrain programme director Richard Bielski commented about the collaboration with Brooklands College: “They have modernised the syllabus to what is required in the real world and improve it’s stature and perception as an attractive career.”

With a flurry of messages congratulating him on social media, an excited Christian Hatherall-Good, head of curriculum for Construction at Brooklands College, said: “This is a massive achievement for the Brickwork department at Brooklands College and is the cherry on the top of a great year for our department, with students competing in the Guild of Bricklayers regional heat and national final and the SkillBuild bricklaying competition.”

Congratulations to all involved.
