On 23rd September 2021, Brooklands College Business and Media learners were selected as finalists for The Spelthorne Business Plan Competition 2021, hosted at BP in Sunbury. Learners Christian Patellaro, Toby Sanger, Ben Waldie and Reuben Jassal presented their joint collaborative ‘I Choose Local’ project with Click26 Ltd and Banntech Ltd to a panel of judges. Whilst they were unlucky to miss out on receiving an award, they have gained valuable skills in developing a business plan, pitching the idea to an audience and were able to answer questions from the panel of judges about their concept.
The Spelthorne Business Plan Competition represents a search for the local business entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Participants are asked to think of a business idea and answer our online question form. The six best entries then create a business plan to present to our panel of expert judges at a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style final – www.spelthorne.gov.uk/businesscomp
Learners from the Creative and Business Studies faculty have been working on the creation of the ‘I Choose Local’ platform which aims to support young people (18-24) in order for them to be hired as freelancers, volunteers and/or potentially moving into employment in the local community of Spelthorne. The learners explained the benefits of their idea by saying, “we can see how the platform will be of benefit to the community for both young people to enhance their employability skills and for businesses to expand and help the community.”
Brooklands College is proud of these learners who have demonstrated great initiative throughout this process and we are confident that they will continue to positively develop in their industry.
