Gen Z Buzz

Brooklands College and Brooklands Radio are working together to launch a new radio show which will be produced and hosted by students at Brooklands College.

Gen Z Buzz will be a ‘Magazine Style’ format that will include items of general interest drawn from different areas of human activities for the 16-25-year-old and will be launching in February 2024.

In preparation for the launch of the program Karim Ngobi, media lecturer at the college will work with students on the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Media.

As part of the training, they will attend LIVE Radio broadcasts being presented by Baz Richards and Graham Laycock from Brooklands Radio. This will enable students to develop skills in presenting for radio and professional radio studio practice. They will then be trained by Karim in operating a LIVE Radio Desk including; scriptwriting for radio, radio journalism, legal and ethical issues, Ofcom regulations, interviewing techniques in news gathering and understanding the roles of a radio producer, presenter, studio manager and studio engineer.

A radio studio has been prepared within the College’s media department. This is where students will prepare shows and recordings ready for the launch of Gen Z Buzz.

Christine Ricketts, Principal at Brooklands College said, “ I would like to thank Brooklands Radio for giving our students this opportunity to work in industry. The experience they gain will be invaluable as they move on to Higher Education or the workplace.”

Baz Richards, presenter on Brooklands Radio added, “We are delighted to be working with Karim and the Brooklands College Students on this exciting new venture in 2024. We look forward to supporting the personal development and technical skills of those who will be involved in producing the magazine life style radio programme aimed at the local Gen Z community.”
