Alongside being a mum of 3, Ruby Panesar took the Level 2 Cake Decoration course at Brooklands College. She had become used to baking cakes for her children and wanted to learn new skills to develop her interest.
During lockdown, Ruby found another rewarding hobby – sewing masks for the NHS. “I was involved with a group of seamstresses who initially made PPE for keyworkers and then we made masks which were sold at local retailers. The money raised was for a charity called The Sanctuary. To date, over £2000 has been raised.” With her new-found baking skills, Ruby also created a delightful 3D vintage sewing machine cake!
“I loved attending this course because, as well as Sue who taught us, the other students were great, providing valuable advice and seeing their creations was also very inspiring… Anyone considering enrolling on this course, I would say that it’s definitely been a learning curve for me, providing me with skills that have made me feel more confident.”
Ruby intends to continue baking and dreams of owning her own little business in the future.
