Building Futures: Brooklands Technical College Students Gain Construction Insights with Morgan Sindall

Our Level 3 Building Services T Level students had a unique opportunity to experience the construction industry during Morgan Sindall Construction’s Employability Week, held from the 27th to the 31st of January 2025. This hands-on week gave students valuable insights into various career opportunities in construction.

Morgan Sindall, one of the UK’s leading construction companies, is known for delivering high-quality projects across sectors such as education, healthcare, and commercial construction. As part of their commitment to education, Morgan Sindall invited our students to explore what a career in construction can offer.

The week began with site health and safety inductions and an introduction to Morgan Sindall’s values by Social Value Manager, Bryn Parker. Students then participated in sessions focusing on key roles in construction, such as Project Manager, Design Manager, and Site Manager. The opportunity to shadow professionals on-site gave students first-hand experience of the day-to-day workings of a construction project.

In addition to on-site experience, students attended trade talks from leading electrical and building companies, gaining a broader understanding of the sector’s different specialisms. The week concluded with reflective journal entries and student presentations, where Bryn Parker was impressed with the students’ use of technical terminology and the respectful, focused manner in which they participated.

The students were enthusiastic about the week, with many highlighting how much they enjoyed learning directly from industry professionals. “We really enjoyed the different activities and learning from construction professionals throughout the week,” one student remarked.

Chris Sloane, the students’ teacher, reflected, “The more I think about the week, the better I think it is. The students learned and applied so much knowledge, which will be invaluable for their upcoming Employer Set Project.”

Morgan Sindall’s Employability Week provided our students with essential insights into the construction industry, inspiring them to confidently pursue future careers in the field.
