3 Tips To Gaining An Apprenticeship

Does the thought of exams give you a headache? Not a fan of sitting in a classroom? Just want to get out there into the exciting working world? An Apprenticeship could be for you!

With more and more young minds wanting to curve the usual educational route, interest in Apprenticeships is on the rise. But hang on a minute, are they only for 16-19’s? NO! This is a common misconception because an Apprenticeship is for anyone! Whether you’re 16 or 61 – age really doesn’t matter! You could be upskilling in your current workplace, learning a new trade on the side or completely changing your career path for a new adventure. 

Here are our top 3 essential tips to increase your chances of gaining an apprenticeship:

1. Brush up on your English & Math skills. Many employers look for people who have a basic ability with English & Maths in order to adapt efficiently in day-to-day duties.
   Need a boost? Why not try one of our Functional Skills courses.
2. Get some work experience. Employers want to see that you’re proactive and already have a little working knowledge with positive feedback. 
3. Do your homework. There’s no point approaching an employer if you have little knowledge of what they do. Research. Research. Research. Find out what drives them and you’ll be able to figure out what skills they are going to be on the lookout for – be it digital knowhow, manual graft, a mind for problem-solving or something else. ​
