Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people aged 16 or above, looking for on the job training and the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised qualification.
An apprenticeship in site carpentry will develop your employability skills and give you the training you need or working in an on-site setting. You will need to work in a construction environment, working a minimum of 30 hours per week (including training time).

You will typically be working for a main construction company. Alternatively your job role will include one or more of the following areas, cutting and shaping timber for floorboards, skirting boards and window frames, making and assembling doors, window frames, staircases and fitted furniture, Installing skirting boards, door surrounds, doors, cupboards and shelving, as well as door handles and locks (second fixings). Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.

You must have a Grade D or above GCSE in Maths and English Language (or grade 3 or above in the grading scheme) before starting the course or equivalent.
You will need to demonstrate an interest in working in the construction sector. All applicants applying for an apprenticeship will need to attend an interview and undertake initial assessments.
You will attend day release at college one day a week over two academic years. You will be assessed in the workplace by an assessor through a portfolio of evidence. During your assessments targets will be set to ensure that you complete your apprenticeship on time.
If you have achieved Grade C or above in Maths and English (or Grade 4 or above on the new grading scheme), you will not be required to undertake Functional Skills.
If you have achieved less than these grades, you will be required to achieve a minimum Level 1 Functional Skills prior to or during the apprenticeship. These will be assessed through external examinations and workshops.
