In July 2024, construction work started on the Brooklands Technical College redevelopment. In July 2024, construction work started on the Brooklands Technical College redevelopment. The £45m investment into the college will create a purpose-built secure campus and attractive learning environment, focused on a central quad with greatly enhanced student facilities.
The centre will enable the delivery of courses that are focused toward passive technologies such as; insulation, building treatments and air tightness testing. It will help to deliver courses, in partnership with industry employers and professional bodies, to ensure the Construction workforce has the necessary skills to meet the growing demands of the green skills economy.
Science, Education & Early Years, Health, Public Services and Sport
A refurbished building with cutting edge laboratory space for Science students, and a simulated nursery and model medical rooms to deliver the new government T-level qualifications in Education & Early Years and Health.
The new facilities include a simulated nursery, for early years students and model medical rooms for health care trainees. The realistic working environments are essential in preparing students effectively for the world of work in their chosen industry sectors. All classrooms have been refurbished and include the latest technology.

The building has been totally reconfigured internally to create areas for: Hair & Beauty, Catering, Travel & Tourism, student dining/breakout area and new Brooks Restaurant and Salon.
Members of the public will have access to Brooks Restaurant and Hair & Beauty Salon to benefit from the services offered and in-turn our students will gain hands-on industry experience. These areas are situated so that access to the inner college is not possible.
This building has been completely reconfigured and refurbished both internally and externally to provide classroom space, that will be utilised by the whole College for the teaching of theory, workshops, tutorial activity and English and maths. The classroom spaces will provide improved access to the use of technology and the top floor will provide a dedicated space for Pre-16 Foundation Pathway students who choose an alternative secondary education.
The reconfigured Locke King building (ground, 1st and 2nd floor) will bring these areas together to create synergy and a unique curriculum grouping offered by the College.
The approach to cluster IT, Media and Creative Studies fits well with the developing skills demands in these fields such as UK film and television studios and in the gaming industry, where joint creative and IT skills are seen as a significant benefit in the job market.
The development will also enable the College to invest in IT facilities which allows students to specialise in Cyber security, IT, T-Levels and enhanced VR/Green screen technology to meet growing industry needs in the locality and the region.
Construction work is due to start in Spring 2025 and this building will be located adjacent to the Barnes Wallis building. A new entrance plaza will lead to a significant public frontage to Brooklands Technical College. The proposed main entrance to the college will be positioned between the existing Barnes Wallis building and the proposed sports hall and community hub building; acting as a visual and functional connection between the college campus and the residential development.
The new sports hall and gym has been designed to the latest Sport England guidance and will be used by the College on weekdays during normal term times (approximately 36 weeks of the year) between 8am and 5pm. The new facilities will also be available to the public in the evenings, at weekends and during the 16 weeks outside term time.
The ground floor of the sports hall building will accommodate a 4-court sports hall for indoor sports activities such as badminton, netball, basketball, tennis and volleyball. The space will also be suitable for sports practice for athletics, cricket, hockey and five-a-side football. Ancillary facilities at ground floor level comprise changing areas and hygiene facilities. There will also be a public café area.
The first-floor accommodation comprises a gym, a fitness studio and three physio bays. Ancillary facilities at first floor level include changing areas, dedicated to users of the gym and/or fitness studio.
Construction starts at the beginning of 2026 and the proposals for the new building specifically respond to the growing demand for post-16 SEND provision.
The new accommodation will initially provide accommodation for a maximum of 200 student places, but with an additional investment by Surrey County Council, we will create a new provision for high needs SEND students (particularly students with Autism). This extra floor space will then accommodate a further 60 students (whose needs are not currently catered for locally) and who have to travel outside the Borough to study/train.
The new building for SEND learners will be situated where the current catering block is located. All catering facilities and Brooks Restaurant are being relocated to the reconfigured Barnes Wallis building and the existing building will be demolished.
The final part of the project will be the completion of the car park and landscaping across the whole campus.
