Importance of GCSEs

If you are currently undertaking GCSEs, it is extremely important that you work towards achieving your very best possible GCSE qualifications and grades. Doing so is important for your future and achieving the best grades possible will help you get on your chosen course.

What if I do not get the GCSE results I am expecting?

If you don’t get the exam results you had hoped for it’s important not to worry. Brooklands College is here to help, and has lots of options to help you achieve your career aspirations.

Depending on your exam results you may be able to study your chosen course at a lower level in the first instance. You will still have the opportunity to progress to a higher level at a later stage. If there are spaces available you may also be able to transfer to another course with different entry requirements if this is more appropriate.

If you do not pass your Maths or English qualifications at Grade 4-9 (A-C) you will be able to study them alongside your chosen course if needed.

We also offer GCSE re-sits in November, so you can re-take these subjects if you want to improve your results.

No matter your results you should still come along to Enrolment and meet with the Course Tutors from your chosen Curriculum area and discuss your options, or alternatively you can contact Admissions for a chat where we can hopefully relieve your concerns.

Hopefully in a new and different teaching environment and different teachers we will be able to help you pass them so that you can progress to a Level 3 course with us if that is your aim. To study any Level 3 course, you will need a Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English.

What level course will I enrol to?

As stated above, this will depend on your GCSE results, or prior qualifications. If you do not achieve the required GCSE grades for a particular level you will be offered an alternative level. We will help you to work out what is best for you.

What are the entry criteria for the new T Level qualifications?

T Levels are a 2-year Level 3 qualification that you can do after GCSEs as an alternative to A levels, other post-16 courses or an apprenticeship.  They have been designed with leading businesses and employers to give you the knowledge and skills you need for your chosen career.

Entry to T Levels requires a minimum of Grade 5 Maths GCSE and Grade 4 English, and 3 other GCSEs above Grade 4, ideally including a science or design subject. Grades may vary for different subjects. Please check the website for specific course criteria, or contact Admissions.

Childcare and Health Care courses also require you to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check when you start the course.

If you do not meet the required entry criteria for T Levels you can study a T Level Foundation Year first.

What is a T Level Foundation Year?

The T Level Foundation Year is a one-year post-GCSE course designed to prepare you for your chosen T Level. It will enable you to develop your English and Maths, practical, technical and study skills, and provide work experience to help you excel in your T Level. There are some minimum entry requirements for the Foundation Year, we can discuss these with you at enrolment.

What if I change my mind or have no idea what I want to study?

You can apply for more than one course if you haven’t decided yet and you can decide once you receive your GCSE results and confirm your choice with us when you enrol.

We realise it can be overwhelming to have lots of course choices, so if you are still not sure, our Careers Team are on hand to help you to work through your options and give you advice.  If you would like to book an appointment or talk to our Careers Team please call us on 01932 797700 or email at careers@brooklands.ac.uk to make an appointment.

What is Enrolment?

Enrolment is an important stage of becoming a student at Brooklands College. It is when you officially become a student at College.

At enrolment your prior qualifications will be checked and we will discuss with you the most suitable level of course for your needs taking into account your prior qualifications/GCSE grades.

You will then be issued with your College ID card and you will sign a Learning Agreement to confirm your course.

Enrolment takes place just before the start of your course in August between Tuesday 20th through to Friday 30th August 2024.  We will contact you to tell you when you need to enrol and the step by step process and link to our online Enrolment Information pages.

In the meantime please make a note of these dates in your diary/calendar.

Who can I talk to about my options, about enrolment or if my details have changed?

We look forward to welcoming you to Brooklands College, however, we realise September is a long way off, so should you have any further questions or if any of your personal details change in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact our Admissions Team and we will be happy to help you.
